The California Mid yard
Mid yard1 [mid-yahrd] noun
Origin:
2013; American English mid, yahrd (e), cognate with Middle English yerd (e). 1. the ground that immediately adjoins a dynamic augmented living system, public building, or other structure. 2. a semi-enclosed area outdoors, often decked or landscaped and surrounded by or adjacent to a building; court. On a residential block of land a mid yard is the portion of land between the living systems modular components. It is a new type of space that provides a variety of outdoor textures. While the mid yards counterparts, the front yard and the backyard, are often dominated by utilitarian features like tool sheds, clothes lines, unusable landscaping, and miscellaneous storage, the mid yard is often a combination recreation area and pure southern California chill zone. It is an extrusion of the houses habitable area and the means through which the natural climate becomes the buildings air conditioner.
